How to Check Your Aadhaar-PAN Link Status Online: A Step-by-Step Guide
One of the most essential documents for financial transactions in India is the PAN (Permanent Account Number) card. Whether you are opening a bank account or investing in mutual funds, providing a valid PAN is mandatory. Similarly, the Aadhaar Card, introduced by the Government of India, serves as a unique identity verification document for Indian residents.
To enhance financial transparency and security, the government has made it compulsory to link PAN with Aadhaar. If not linked, your PAN may become inoperative, affecting various financial transactions.
PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline & Consequences
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued another reminder for taxpayers to complete their PAN-Aadhaar linking by May 31, 2024. If you fail to do so, you may face:
- Higher Tax Deduction at Source (TDS) and Tax Collection at Source (TCS) under Sections 206AA and 206CC of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
- Difficulties in conducting financial transactions due to an inactive PAN.
