Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Assumes Office at Delhi Secretariat
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today officially took charge at the Delhi Secretariat, where she was warmly welcomed by Chief Secretary Dharmendra Kumar and other senior officials. Addressing the media after assuming office, Mrs. Gupta emphasized the Delhi government’s commitment to the mission of Viksit Delhi. Members of Parliament and the Delhi Legislative Assembly met with her to extend their congratulations on her new role.
Earlier in the day, Rekha Gupta, a first-time BJP MLA, was sworn in as the Chief Minister at the historic Ramlila Maidan in the national capital. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena. Alongside her, six Cabinet Ministers—Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh—also took their oaths. With this, Rekha Gupta has become Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister, following in the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi, as well as the second woman BJP Chief Minister in the city’s history.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Rekha Gupta on assuming office, highlighting her grassroots political journey. In a social media post, he acknowledged her extensive experience in campus politics, state organization, municipal administration, and legislative roles. Expressing confidence in her leadership, he stated that Ms. Gupta would work diligently towards the development of Delhi.
The Prime Minister also extended congratulations to Parvesh Sahib Singh, Ashish Sood, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Pankaj Kumar Singh on their appointments as Ministers. He remarked that this team brings together a unique combination of energy and experience, ensuring good governance for the people of Delhi.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by key national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and several other Union Ministers. Additionally, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers from various states were present to witness the event.
Following her oath, Rekha Gupta officially became Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister and was unanimously elected as the new leader in the BJP legislative party meeting held the previous evening. After the meeting, she met Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena at Raj Niwas, where she formally staked her claim to form the government. The Lieutenant Governor accepted her claim and invited her to take charge as Delhi’s new Chief Minister.

Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Rekha Gupta expressed her gratitude to the party’s top leadership for entrusting her with this responsibility. She pledged to serve the people of Delhi with honesty, integrity, and dedication, ensuring the welfare and development of the city.
Ms. Gupta secured her position as an MLA by winning from the Shalimar Bagh constituency in the recent Delhi assembly elections. Her political journey began in 1992 with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Daulat Ram College, Delhi University. She later became the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union in 1996 and has also served as the General Secretary of the BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi.
